The marine life of the National Park
The National Park has a coastline of approximately 60 km, and during the summer vacation, there are guided snorkeling trips where you can get up close to the coastal plant and animal life.
On these snorkeling trips, you can, for example, experience the biodiversity-rich Jernhatten or perhaps try your hand at the underwater trail at Fuglsø Strand. Whether you have snorkeled before or not, you can participate in the snorkeling trips.
Challenged marine environment
The snorkeling dives are primarily a great experience for both children and adults during the summer vacation. But for Mols Bjerge National Park, the dives are also about conveying the importance of taking care of our marine environment.
When you swim out from Boeslum beach, for example, and experience the coastal rocky reef here, it becomes clear how important these reefs are for animal and plant life. Unfortunately, decades of stone fishing have removed many of the natural reefs.
The same experience can be had when swimming along the wind turbine pier at Ebeltoft, where the pier functions as an artificial reef.
On the snorkeling trip to the east side of the Dragsmur peninsula, you can experience the significance of eelgrass beds. Eelgrass, which is not actually seaweed but a flowering plant, provides a habitat for a rich diversity of snails, crustaceans, and mussels.
A unique underwater experience
You can also go snorkeling with the National Park in the evening on a night dive. Swimming out into the twilight is a completely different experience, as the life beneath the surface is entirely different from what you normally experience.
Much of the life in shallow waters is nocturnal, so when you participate in the evening dive, you swim out when the fish and other animals have just "woken up." You will be equipped with an underwater flashlight and can also borrow a wetsuit, snorkel, mask, and fins on-site.
No special prerequisites are required to participate in the snorkeling dives, just the ability to swim.
Can you participate even if you don't speak Danish?
The intoduction and other information will be given in Danish, but the guides can give them to you in English. please contact us before the trip and we can let the guides know in advance.
Send an e-mail to mols@danmarksnationalparker.dk.
Be aware that the sightseeing, boattrips and snorkeling tours is hosted in Danish.
Of course you are most welcome even if you do not understand Danish. It is possible to join the snorkeling tours as an English speaker, but experience with water and swimming is a must.
